Steps to replace the potentiometer
Steps to replace the potentiometer
Under the condition of long-term operation and use, the potentiometer may malfunction and cannot be repaired, causing the whole machine to malfunction. At this time, we need to replace the obsolete potentiometer. The specific steps for replacing the potentiometer are as follows:
1. To replace the potentiometer, choose a product with the same linearity, resistance and rated power as the original potentiometer.
The potentiometer generally cannot be repaired in addition to the large rotating noise failure, such as serious wear of the carbon film, overcurrent burnout of the potentiometer, etc., and a new potentiometer must be replaced at this time. Of course, if you can replace it with the original model, you should try your best to repair it when the original model cannot be matched. If it cannot be repaired, the potentiometer can be selected according to the following principles:
(1) Different linear potentiometers, such as X-type, Z-type, and D-type potentiometers, cannot be used instead of each other, otherwise the control effect will not be good.
(2) If other conditions are met, it can be substituted when the nominal resistance is very similar.
(3) If other conditions are met, the rated power is the same, or the new potentiometer is slightly larger, it can be used instead.
(4) Rotary potentiometers and direct slide potentiometers cannot be replaced with each other because of the different installation methods. For the rotary potentiometer, the length of the handle should be the same, otherwise the knob on the rotary handle cannot be installed normally.
When selecting power distributors, the above-mentioned conditions must be met at the same time.
2. Potentiometer replacement steps
The potentiometer has multiple pins. In order to prevent the wrong pins from being connected during replacement, the following specific operation steps and methods can be used:
The first step is to remove the set screw of the original potentiometer, but do not solder the lead on the original potentiometer pin slice, and connect the lead to the potentiometer.
The second step is to install and fix the new potentiometer.
Step 3, solder a lead on the original potentiometer pin slice, solder this lead on the corresponding pin slice of the new potentiometer, and solder the new and old potentiometers in contrast.
Step 4, in the same way, solder each pin wire. Using this method of welding the next one and then the other one can avoid the wrong position of the leads being welded to each other.
In the nonlinear potentiometer, the leads on the two stators cannot be connected to each other wrongly, otherwise it will affect the control effect of the potentiometer in the circuit. For example, after the two fixed pin pieces of the volume potentiometer are connected reversely, the volume is already loud when the handle is turned a little bit, and the volume hardly increases when the volume knob is turned again, which loses the linear control characteristics of the volume controller. .
There are many types of power amplifier volume potentiometers, but the most common one is the dual potentiometer, which is used to control the volume of the left and right channels. It is usually single-axis, and occasionally you will encounter double-layer dual-axis volume potentiometers. The general problem with the volume potentiometer is that noise will appear when the volume is controlled by the rotation, or the volume of the two channels is different, then the volume potentiometer must be replaced. After the potentiometer has been used for a long time, the carbon film will deteriorate slightly. Cracks are the main reason for the deterioration of the quality of the volume potentiometer, so if the potentiometer has such a problem, it is the kingly way to replace it first.
