The encoder is a photoelectric rotary measuring device, which directly converts the measured angular displacement into a digital signal (high-speed pulse signal). Therefore, the output pulse signal of the encoder can be directly input to the plc, and the pulse signal can be counted by the high-speed counter of the PLC, and the Omron touch screen can be used to obtain the measurement result.

Different types of encoders have different phases of output pulses. Some encoders output three-phase pulses of A, B, and Z, some only have two-phase A and B, and the simplest is only A-phase.

The encoder has 4 leads, 2 of which are pulse output lines, 1 is the COM terminal line, and 1 is the power line.

The power supply of the encoder can be an external power supply, or directly use the DC24V power supply of the PLC. The “-” terminal of the power supply should be connected to the COM terminal of the encoder, and the “+” terminal should be connected to the power terminal of the encoder.

The COM terminal of the encoder is connected to the PLC input COM terminal, and the A and B phase pulse output lines are directly connected to the PLC input terminal. Pay attention to the response time of the PLC input when connecting. Some rotary encoders also have a shielded wire, which should be grounded when using it.

This wiring method is used when the working voltage of the sensor is different from the input voltage of the PLC, take the transistor part of the encoder, and connect it to the power supply in series to connect to the PLC in a non-voltage form. But it should be noted that the voltage of the external power supply must be below DC30V, and the switching capacity is below 35mA per phase. If the working voltage exceeds this working voltage, the encoder may be damaged.

The specific wiring method is as follows: the brown wire of the encoder is connected to the positive electrode of the encoder working voltage, the blue wire is connected to the negative electrode of the encoder working voltage, the output wire is connected to the input point of the PLC in turn, the blue wire is connected to the negative electrode of the external power supply, and the positive electrode of the external power supply is connected to the PLC.
