Getting started with SINAMICS V90 servo drive system (2)-STO function
Today in this article, we will introduce the STO function of the V90 servo drive.

The full English name of STO is "Safe TorqueOff", and the Chinese translation is "Safe TorqueOff".
The STO function of SINAMICS V90 complies with IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO
The requirements of safety standards such as 13849-1 belong to the A standard (basic standard), and the SIL (safety integration level) level is 2. When the STO function is activated, the torque output of the servo drive to the servo motor can be cut off, so that the servo motor is free Stop or emergency stop (cooperate with motor brake).
The STO function of SINAMICS V90 has the following characteristics:
This function is integrated in the servo drive and does not require a higher-level controller such as PLC to start; when this function is activated, the servo drive cuts off the torque output by sending a safety suppression pulse to prevent accidental starting of the servo motor. However, the electrical connection between the servo drive and the servo motor is not
Not cut off; the X6 terminal block of SINAMICS V90 has two STO terminals, as shown in the figure below:
The safe torque off has three terminals (STO1, STO+, STO2), of which:
STO+ is the safe torque off channel power terminal; STO1 is the safe torque off channel 1 wiring terminal; STO2 is the safe torque off channel 2 wiring terminal; only when STO1 and STO2 are both high, the servo motor can operate normally ; The servo motor is connected to STO+ and STO1/STO2 with a short link at the factory to ensure the normal operation of the motor. As shown below:

However, in practical applications, STO should play a safe role. For example, connect the normally closed channel of a safety device such as an emergency stop button or a safety relay to the STO terminal to ensure that the motor can stop or prevent accidental starting in an emergency. As shown below:

The levels of STO1 and STO2 channels and the operation of the servo motor are described in the following table:

Well, the STO function of SINAMICS V90 is introduced here first.
